Reclaimed Lumber Company Chooses WSI for SEO

The Lumber Baron offers a variety of reclaimed lumber types – redwood, cedar, Douglas fir, and hardwood – available for purchase as is or freshly milled. The Lumber Baron has been in business since 1978 and is family owned and operated in the San Francisco Bay area.

In August, WSI was selected to implement a new SEO plan that included keyword research and creating new pages on their website directed at the top keywords. WSI focused on 5 keywords to increase The Lumber Baron’s rankings:

These new pages contain links to other pages on the site, thereby increasing the time visitors spend on the site and the number of pages they visit. Through Google Analytics, these metrics, as well as keyword integration, will continue to be monitored and tracked.

Additionally, WSI was tasked with increasing their online presence through social media and content marketing. We have also created offsite blogs for The Lumber Baron on WordPress, Blogger, and Tumblr to help expand their brand and build greater awareness for their products.

Drive Attendance to your local event with Facebook

Sold Out!  That is what we like to hear from our clients who choose us to help them with their Facebook event ads. WSI Connect has been creating and running Facebook Ads for our clients who host monthly workshops and annual events. Our ads have helped drive attendance for local events and increase awareness around services.

Are you using Facebook ads to drive attendance to your local events? Read on to discover our step by step approach we take in creating Facebook ads.

Creating Ads from your Facebook Page

If you are short on time and do not want to use Facebook Ads Manager, you can boost your event and posts directly from your Facebook page. Working directly on your page is easier, straightforward and quick.

Boost Event

From your event list, click on Boost Event.

A pop-up will open where you can customize your objectives, add an image, adjust targeting, and set the ad run time (1 day, 7 days, 14 days).

Boost Event, Increase Ticket Sales vs. Reach More People

The above images show how your event will appear to viewers based on your objective. Where one directs individuals to a ticket website, the latter objective drives awareness. People that click interested or going, cause your event to show up in their friends’ news feeds.

Boost Event, Ad Creative: Text

In this section you’ll want to describe your event and why people should attend. I like to keep the descriptive area to no more than a paragraph or two. For workshops, I’ve started using the following format:

    • EVENT TITLE IN ALL CAPS (or other priority information)
    • Short Description
    • DATE IN ALL CAPS

Boost Event, Ad Creative: Add an Image

When you click “Boost Event” the ad will automatically populate the cover image used on the event page. You can select a new image from your photo album or upload a new one.

Boost Event: Audience

Facebook provides a couple of prebuilt audience selections for you: People who like your Page and People who like your Page and their friends. You may also customize your audience based on interests, demographics, and location.

Boost Event: Budget & Duration

Choose or enter your desired budget and ad run.

Tip: For events such as workshops, run your ad 3 to 4 days before the date. We’ve seen better performance on ads the closer they are to the event date. If you’ve dialed in your targeting you should see a low cost per clicks and increased registration. All other types of events, you will want to time your ad runs with the heaviest concentration of budget leading up to your ticket deadline date or event date.

After completing the above steps, you’ll be prompted to enter a credit card for payment and you can boost your event.

Creating Ads from Ads Manager

I prefer to create ads from within Ads Manager because I can use multiple images and videos and duplicate successful ads easily. From your Ad Manager, select Create Ads and choose your objective.

Awareness, Consideration, or Conversion
For events, I recommend “traffic” under the Consideration objective. The steps will be similar to above when setting your audience, budget and duration.

However, within Ads Manager you can edit where your ad is seen (image below). The majority of our clients are not on Instagram, so I always edit the placements and primarily use Facebook and the Audience Network choices.

Tip: If you are creating an ad strictly for Messenger, you will want to edit the placements to only include desktop and mobile feeds (as pictured below).

You have several choices. I use a mix of single image ads, carousal ads and occasionally video ads.

Be sure to direct users to a meaningful, straightforward link that has the information they are expecting.

Tip: Be sure to enter the direct link to your ticket site or dedicated event page on your website. Users do not want to go to a main page where they have to hunt for more information. On May 10, Facebook announced that they are essentially cracking down on ads that lead to a low-quality web experience. In essence, ensure your link sends users directly to the information they are seeking, without disruptions such as pop-ups.

Whether you choose a single image or carousel ad format, choose images that clearly show the type of event and the purpose. For instance, in the above example, the images chosen were from the previous year’s event. The text creates a sense of urgency, the image gallery shows what happened the previous year: winning raffles, auctions, pre-party VIP, dancing, and food.

Facebook Ad Success Example:

The image below shows a workshop with a four day ad duration. Through targeting specific audiences and directing them directly to the registration page, this ad realized an ROI of 35x.

Marketing Tools to Help Nonprofits

At the heart of every nonprofit organization are the donors and volunteers.

The generosity of the donor base ensure programs and services are available. The volunteers assist Staff and help ensure events, fundraisers and administrative tasks run smoothly.

If you run a not-for-profit agency or provide social media services for a charitable organization, you know how challenging it is to build engagement and excitement.   This is especially true, as agencies do not want to overload donors with emails and social posts. As a volunteer Member of the Board for the Bay Area Crisis Nursery, I understand the challenges nonprofits face when trying to successfully execute an online marketing strategy.

For the Bay Area Crisis Nursery, a local nonprofit in Concord, California, the first thing we provided them was a new, responsive website. Once that project was completed, we moved forward with applying for a Google for Nonprofits grant on their behalf.

Google for Nonprofits is an All-in-One Solution

The Google for Nonprofits program is the all-in-one solution for Nonprofits who need reliable email and collaborative marketing tools. What we like most about the Google for Nonprofits program is their offer of paid Google products for – free! The Bay Area Crisis Nursery was able to save money by switching to Google Apps for Work for the business email, document storage/sharing, and video.

In addition, they also utilize Google AdGrants to help drive awareness around their mission, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising events. As Google continues to increase their product offerings for their Nonprofits, the Bay Area Crisis Nursery will benefit by staying current in a changing digital landscape.

Facebook Continues to Increase Tools for Nonprofits

The second area we assist the Bay Area Crisis Nursery with is social media management. Specifically, we help manage their Facebook page. We were really excited when Facebook rolled out the verified business feature and are even more excited about their upcoming Facebook Fundraisers initiative.

Facebook announced that they would soon be making it easier for verified nonprofits raise funds – all within Facebook. Nonprofits will soon be able to run fundraising campaigns within their company’s page. If your nonprofit has a verified page and is a valid 510(c)(3) organization registered with the IRS, you can request more information here.

Additional Tools for your Nonprofit

  • TechSoup – Techsoup has been around for three decades. They help nonprofits obtain the needed tech, knowledge or skills.
  • GiveDirect – Based out of the California’s Bay Area, Give Direct is a secure donation service provided exclusively to the members of Independent Charities of America. Member organizations are able to process credit card donations at little to no cost.
  • mGive – mGive offers three different types of programs for 501(c)(3) non-profits. Each program is based on annual revenue generated and has varying features from program to program. The community program for those nonprofits with annual revenue under $500k and seeking to grow offers 0% transaction fees for mobile pledging capabilities.
  • Norm – Norm offers a social media interaction opportunity for non-profits. Volunteers can tag their social media posts in an effort to potentially earn rewards for a non-profit of their choice.

The Conco Companies Retain WSI for a Fourth Year of Comprehensive Digital Marketing Services

The Conco Companies are one of the USA’s largest commercial concrete contractors, and holders of the Guinness World Book of Records record for the largest continuous concrete mat pour, on the Wilshire Grand in LA scheduled to be completed in 2017.

WSI is one of the largest digital marketing agencies in the world, with over 1,000 offices in 81 countries.

Given the strength of our respective organizations it is only fitting that WSI and Conco have agreed to strengthen a mutually beneficial partnership that has dramatically improved Conco’s online presence and lead generation. First initiated in July 2013, the engagement initially focused solely on SEO, and has since blossomed into a comprehensive digital marketing service offering including: SEO, web development, e-mail marketing, social media marketing, PPC and mobile app development.

Over the last 12 month’s WSI has created a new responsive site leading to 23% growth in mobile traffic, added 49 pages of content to the site, created a new micro site for the Denver market, with a white paper lead capture feature, optimized the site for dozens of SEO terms and doubled nearly every social media metric.

970 Denny Way located in the South Lake Union neighborhood in Seattle, Washington

The redevelopment project is from the Holland Partner Group and is a blend of both modern and classic styles. Holland Construction is serving as the general contractor and the Seattle-based architectural firm of Weber Thompson designed the contemporary style building.

Conco successfully completed part of our concrete services when our crews poured 4,900 cubic yards of concrete last month to form the 15,300 square foot mat foundation. In addition to the concrete, the foundation required 1.3 million pounds of rebar. The pour was done over approximately 15 hours and the concrete was supplied by CalPortland.

350 Bush Street, San Francisco

The Conco Companies are providing concrete services for a new office building in downtown San Francisco located at 350 Bush Street. The new 20-story high-rise will have 18 floors of office space, one lobby level, and a roof terrace as well as a two-level subgrade parking structure. In addition as the office tower will incorporate the San Francisco Mining Exchange, a historic landmark, as its primary entrance, the project also includes the “Historic Renovation of San Francisco Mining Exchange Building.”

The Mark at 5th & Columbia Project

The Conco Companies are providing concrete services for The Mark, a 48-story high-rise tower in Seattle, WA that will consist of 528,000 sq. ft. of Class A+ office space, as well as a luxurious 189-room SLS hotel and spa. Conveniently located in the city’s central business district, the stunning beautifully designed tower will incorporate a wide range of “green” building features such as rain water management, photovoltaic glass and light pollution reduction. Scheduled for completion in April, 2017, the tower will bring to the area first-class office space that is highly divisible and offers 9’ 6” windows for natural light and spectacular views.

WSI and Conco have just agreed to strengthen a mutually beneficial partnership that has dramatically improved Conco’s online presence and lead generation. First initiated in July 2013, the engagement initially focused solely on SEO, and has since blossomed into a comprehensive service offering including SEO, web development, e-mail marketing, social media marketing, PPC and mobile app development.

Over the last 12 month’s WSI’s has added 62 pages to the Conco site, posted 120 off site blogs to multiple accounts, created and marketed an Android and Apple mobile app that features the available concrete pumps that Conco offers at its various locations, and optimized 5 different social media platforms.

Moving forward, WSI will continue to optimize Conco’s web presence through the creation of a newly designed responsive web site, a drive to expand Conco’s already impressive e-mail list, increased social media presence, add a Weebly blogging account and deepen SEO efforts on high value keywords in SEO. Specifically, WSI will focus on moving Conco up into top three ranking positions for the following high value keywords:

Some of the notable projects that Conco has been involved with include the following:

The Main Street Gateway Project in Bellevue Washington. The Conco Companies provided the structural concrete package this mixed-use project. This includes the pumping, place and finish, shotcrete, and formwork along with supplying the reinforcement.

The Kinects Tower in Seattle Washington. This is a new mixed-use 41-story high-rise currently under construction.  Once complete the tower will consist of 356 multi-family units varying from traditional studios to luxury penthouse suites located on the top two floors as well as 4,658 sq. ft. of retail space on the ground level. Conco’s is constructing four levels of below grade parking and five levels above to provide the building with 316 parking stalls.

LuXe -1650 Broadway Street, San Francisco.  This project is a 34-unit condominium Conco is providing all of the concrete pumping and reinforcement services. In addition Conco is constructing two floors below ground that will contain 49 parking spaces for residents.

1650 Wewatta, Denver, Colorado. Conco was awarded a concrete contract by Holland Partners for a 21-story luxury apartment building next to the historic Union Station in downtown Denver. The building will include 288 apartment units, 260 parking spaces, and approximately 7,000 SF of retail space.

Conco and WSI are looking forward to a mutually beneficial relationship for many years to come.
